*** Amazon.com - (Great deals that last 1 day only) / Click Here & StretchThatDollar TODAY!
Worldwide
The e-commerce monolith is featuring products that are marginally related to the inauguration on its home page. (A Colonial Lady Wig, Persol James Bond 007 Sunglasses, A faux fur honey fox shoulder shawl, Are those supposed to be worn together)

To its credit, Amazon.com did make a credible connection to the historic day with its specially created “Inauguration 2009 Bookstore.” This special niche page features the four books authored by the president-elect, Obama’s favorite books, and biographies of Obama’s White House predecessors. Amazon.com did the searching for its customers, and by gathering all the relevant titles together, demonstrated why it consistently gets such high customer satisfaction ratings. Of course, all those chosen patriotic books are discounted too.

Ben & Jerry's
Nationwide

The overtly political sellers of scrumptious scoops are continuing their long tradition of activism with their inaugural flavor, "Yes Pecan!" Ben and Jerry describe the historic treat as "amber waves of buttery ice cream with roasted non-partisan pecans," and they've pledged to donate all the proceeds from its sale in January to the Common Cause Education Fund. To clearly demonstrate their commitment, which they so often do, Ben and Jerry also donated $1 for each of the 10,000 people who joined Common Cause or donated $1 to the charity from the Ben & Jerry's facebook page. Ben & Jerry are philanthropic capitalists that make the new president proud.

Berry Chill

Goorin Brothers

Additionally, Goorin internet shoppers can get a 10% discount on every purchase with the coupon code “Inauguration2009.” Referencing Lincoln’s top hat, FDR’s Fedora, and Eisenhower’s Ivy hats, owner Ben Goorin says, “We feel the voting and dedication of an Obama Presidential hat is appropriate given President-Elect Obama's individual style and his approach of leveraging history to guide the future.” Hats off to the clever spin on this promotion!

*** Sears - (Great deals that last 1 day only) / Click Here & StretchThatDollar TODAY!
U.S., nationwide
The Sears “Countdown to Inauguration Day 2009” clock helps its shoppers remember the amount of time they have to acquire essential Inauguration supplies. American citizens can hardly enjoy the history moment without televisions, DVRs, cameras, flags, wine coolers, GPS devices, and picture frames. Sears has discounted these crucial inaugural accessories in a show of patriotism, and, most importantly, to celebrate capitalism.

Silver Diner
MD, VA, NJ

The “authentic American classic” chain is offering Red, White & Blueplate specials including the Barack and Biden Bacon Cheeseburger, the Potomac Pot Roast, the Obamalette, and the Senatorial Sirloin.

Spitfire Restaurant
Seattle, WA

U.S., Nationwide

Answering the national call to action from the soon-to-be inaugurated president, Starbucks is launching its "I'm In!" program the day after the inauguration. Starbucks will reward every customer who signs a pledge to do 5 hours of community service with a free tall brewed coffee from January 21-25. The goal is to get one million hours pledged, which, doing the math, will be close to a half million contribution from Starbucks to America. That's how capitalism intersects with patriotism!

Sweetgreen Restaurant
Georgetown, D.C.

Rumor has it that Honest Tea is one of Barack Obama's favorite drinks. Diners can get one free with the purchase of any signature salad from Sweetgreen in Georgetown. For those going for the greens, the Obama Salad will give you a taste of the new president, since it is filled with his favorite foods.

Two Steps Down Restaurant
Brooklyn, NY

You can enjoy music, dancing, and a light buffet when the Two Steps Down Restaurant hosts a mini Brooklyn Ball Tuesday night. Admission is free, but if you want to toast the occasion, you’ll need some presidents in your pocket for the cash bar.

McDonald's, Apple, Harley Davidson, Nike, J.C. Penney, Target, Macy's and The Gap, all great American brands, are currently advertising sales and promotions, but none of those promotions reference the historic event before us. It's hard to understand why retailers like Old Navy, American Eagle Outfitters, and Ethan Allen wouldn't take advantage of the obvious connections they could have easily made to the event to ride the wave of positive publicity.

Also noticeably distanced from the day's festivities is America's largest retailer, Wal-Mart. This is not surprising since Wal-Mart openly, actively, and aggressively campaigned against the man who will be taking the oath tomorrow. While adamently opposed to the politics of the party, Wal-Mart is still glad to take the shopping dollars of the voters who support the party.

Let's not forget that there were strong loyalties to both parties, expressed in the form of campaign contributions from retail industry executives. While retailers are eager to keep shopping as a nonpartisan event, it's not likely that they are all feeling the spirit of unity right now.

• I am so glad I found http://www.stretchthatdollar.com/.
I love http://www.stretchthatdollar.com/ because it is someone sharing their knowledge of savings and freebies in a day when so little people want to share anything.
The grocery bag deals are rarely for any of the stores in my area, but I pass the information on to others, that also clip q-pons and do their best to live frugally.
I do make sure I check the sunday coupons against the grocery deals that are posted, just to be sure I didnt miss something of interest on my own. (I have been known to miss a few...LOL)
I have saved so much by ordering items from the hot deals of the day too. Toys for my son and grandson . A clock for my father, that was made by a company that he has been searching for, since last fall. He loved it so much he ordered another one for his girlfriend.
Being a stay at home mom, after being the major bread winner in our family, our income has decreased by 2/3! http://www.stretchthatdollar.com has made stretching our very meager budget so much easier.
So...Thank you for all that you do, it is greatly appreciated.
Brenda Thompson, OH

• I can find what I need by coming to your site and it's my favorite and usually the only one I visit for the best deals. Right now I'm looking for a deal on a hand vac. My 5 yr. old vacuumed up a bowl full of water with my last one. It no longer works, but atleast he didn't electrocute himself!
Nancy Govero, KS

Thanks Nancy... you had such a cute story.
Here's the direct link for all the Hand Vac specials.
We found a perfect hand-vac for just the sort of thing you experienced...
